My husband and I decided that since our 38th anniversary is this coming Thursday, we would go out to Ryan's Buffet about an hour from us for breakfast today, Saturday, and then, across the street to Hobby Lobby to spend my $50 gift card given to me by my older son for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. I thought the fun part would be blowing $50 of someone else's money on yarn, but oh no, that wasn't the fun part. Well, maybe crazy, wild and unexpected would be better words than "fun".
On the way back, going some long back roads, I decided to call my pal, Ladyhawk, to see what was cooking at her place for today. We're talking and laughing when suddenly, I look up and see a black bear run across the road about 200 ft from our car. I cry out, "A bear just ran across the road in front of us!" And immediately upon passing the spot where that bear ran off the shoulder of left side of the road, we see two more black bears, standing side by side, looking at our passing vehicle with great curiosity! Maybe mother and older cubs? Not sure, but other than bear fur from a poached bear in my neighborhood, that is the first bear we've seen in the wild. We've lived out west in the mountains of Colorado and Utah and been here in the North Georgia Mountains for going on twelve years now and never seen a wild bear until today.
That wasn't the end of it. About a mile past the three bear brigade, we came upon a double long, old fashioned covered wagon, drawn by two draft horses, plodding down the road. I was still in Georgia, right? But, what year? Don't you just love it when cool and unexpected things happen on an already fun day?I did meet a really nice lady named Judy at the JoAnn Fabrics behind Ryans, was able to help her out with a quilting question and gave her our business cards. She was an Air Force wife, too, so was very happy to meet and talk with her. Great day all 'round, I'd say!
