Finally, we are in it....SPRING, that is! No more freezing nights for us, though night before last tried to tease/torture us with a 39* low; last night's low was near 60*. The gardens are partially in, the buds on the blueberries and fruit trees survived the last frosty nights and at least, my broody hen march has slowed down. Dottie, one of my big and beautiful heritage line Barred Plymouth Rock hens, has five 2 week old chicks out of Rex, who is the son of her sister, Ida, and my Delaware rooster, Isaac. Three should have a pure Barred Rock appearance, while two are solid black-those last two must be pullets, I'm told by the genetics gurus. Meet Dottie with her five little hoodlums.
