Note that I said "sailing" when what I meant was "pulled, kicking and screaming"! Ladyhawk and I have been so busy of late, making changes to our site to better serve our customers, some of which you'll see in the upcoming weeks, plus maintaining our flocks, getting ready for the upcoming bone-chilling weather. I've been musing about making my life simpler and I know that Ladyhawk has as well, but simplicity can be so darn complicated, can't it? I've canned most of the produce from our gardens, though we planted our fall cabbage garden recently. We lost a huge amount of the last part of the tomato crop to plain old rot from too much rain, nothing to do about that, certainly, but I managed to put up a handful of jars of homemade salsa and some stewed tomatoes in addition to all the squash, cabbage and peppers.
As far as my flocks, I've lost a few hens to various things, most to old age, one to injury and one to liver disease and have another on the skids now. I've been rethinking the flocks for the future. My husband and I did a quickie coop build of an 8x4 size building, meant to move the bantam flock into, but my up and coming breeding Barred Rock cockerel, Atlas, ceased to be properly afraid of the elderly hens he was living with and we were forced to move him and his two pullets into that new coop temporarily. Now, I'm considering just selling him and putting his two girls in my main laying flock. Hubby's health isn't that great and I'm not wanting to do all the work alone this winter, which by all accounts, should be a nasty one for us here. Decisions, decisions! Well, that's all for now. Hope you bear with Ladyhawk and me while we rearrange and readjust our lives and the Blue Roo Creations site! Until next time...
